HEBS Savings

HEBS started with a very good Iterest Rate, but then fell behind. If you don't include the reference no while transferring the money, your money woudn't be credited to your account (fair enough), but once sorted, you won't get the Interest on it for those days even if the money was with the Society. Reviewed on: 9th April 2025

Reply from Hanley Economic Building Society Thank you for your feedback. As a mutual building society we look to pay a fair and consistent interest rate over the long term for our savers. All standing orders should receive interest from the date received by our bank. If the reference number was omitted, the interest received will be manually back dated to the date the funds were received. Please contact our Savings Team, on 01782 255 000, who will be happy to review your feedback. Response date: 10th April 2025

We have been with The Hanley for a number of years, have used different venues and always found the staff to be welcoming and helpful with everything from putting money into accounts or any questions we might have. Reviewed on: 20th January 2026

We value our local branch in Newcastle, and the staff.

We value our local branch in Newcastle, the staff are well informed and very helpful. Most of our savings are with HEBS, interest rates are not the best but the local branch and its staff make the difference to us. In an age when good quality service is hard to find it makes a refreshing change. Reviewed on: 20th January 2026

Hanley Economic Building Society is fantastic.

Hanley are very much on the ball and their customer service is fast to work on anything needed by a customer. It is lovely to speak to someone on the phone, who will personally look at something for you and help you get an answer from someone else. A small gripe that I have is that interest rates for some accounts are low and that there is maintenance every night on online banking, which means that deposits/withdrawals cannot be made at these times.
