Newbury have helped me with a mortgage as a first time buyer, their staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Recently I have also remortgaged through them to reduce my interest as rates have gone down, the process was very quick and staff supported well throughout. Reviewed on: 28th January 2026

Newbury Building Society Unhelpful

We have had a mortgage with Newbury for years and have never missed a payment so when it came to renewing the mortgage for another 2 years they became very unhelpful as my husband was 70 years old and although we proved that we could afford it the repayment of £1300.00 they would not budge. So we decided that we would put one of the two assets we had on the market and pay off the mortgage instead. This took a bit longer than expected and all through this time Newbury kept on badgering our Mortgage Advisor as to when we would be paying off the mortgage and how much longer. So as you can see my husband and I were extremely annoyed by this constant badgering as our hands were tied at this particular time. Glad to see that we have now got rid of the mortgage and thankfully will have nothing more to do with Newbury Building Society, their customer service is not good and were very unhelpful during this whole process. Just to say we made six/seven payments of the mortgage during this time so who said we could not afford it!! Reviewed on: 4th January 2026
