The Basic current account has a contactless debit card, basic banking facilities, mobile banking as well as no fees for using Santander cash machines abroad.

charging people money for running outta money!

I usually try to avoid unplanned overdraft but got into it during the last 12 months due to a few emergencies & cash flow problems. The transaction fees on unarranged overdrafts are extortionate plus I phoned up for hard copy of my statement to try and wrestle this mess into order and they kept me on hold listening to ghastly music for nearly half an hour! They promised a call-back today between 12 and 4, which they didn't. When you phone them on your mobile they can charge £15 for the call on top of your normal billing so I have been reluctant to chase them given the mess I have already gotten in. They broke a promise to this loyal customer of 12 years and not happy. thinking of taking up on that current account switch service as I have gone without the promised one to one support from Santander. Excellent Banking with Santander

I have been with Santander from when they started here. They have always been helpful. They email if they think that something is suspicious on my account. I find that an excellent feature that they check my account to stop any fraudulent activity. Their staff either in the branch or over the phone are friendly, knowledgeable and always help to sort out any concerns I may have. Reviewed on: 7th March 2025

I have been a customer of Santander from when they took over Alliance and Leicester paid off my mortgage and several loans along the way had quite a few different accounts and saved with those accounts. The staff and service are first class they have helped and guided the decisions I have made always taking an impartial stance while supplying the information needed, in a changing world stability, security and reliability are what you need Santander have and still do provide that for me. Avoid having a bank with Santander

You cannot make payments above £2000. Even if your payment limit it set to higher they will block your account. They make you call them but don’t have authority to unfreeze any account through call so you ultimately have to physically go the bank which closes at 3pm. Horrible services, wasting customers time and not being able to make payments with your own money. Avoid Santander I will be closing my bank with Santander. Unusable services.
