Review of the Tesco Bank, Home insurance:

excellent

Following a paint spillage I had to make a claim on my insurance (the first one in about 20 years). I rang up the claims dept at Tesco and was expecting 101questions and realms of paper work - I couldn't have been more wrong. The lady I spoke to was friendly and sympathetic, she dealt with everything over the phone and my claim was sorted and settled within a week :) Reviewed on: 30th September 2017

DO NOT GO THERE!!!

One week & 28 calls later i am still waiting for settlement, which was agreed 5 days ago. I have had to await calls from 2 other companies & had endless promises! I was also promised a further call yesterday which i have still not received! I have been told to call another company who are finalising it, but, as i rightly pointed out, my contract is with Tesco so it is not for me to be calling anyone else. Also, i am awaiting a replacement email, as the original one stated my excess at £800, it is actually £50 - apparently it was a typing error on the draft document! Inefficient, confused, uninterested - that is the only way i can describe this poor excuse of an Insurance Company. I think they should stick to being a supermarket - i award them 3 stars for that! company strategy is to mug their customers

be aware of the auto renew that tesco hide in the small print "sold as making life easy for you" in fact the renewal price for me was 75% more expensive that searching again for building and contents insurance a fresh . Customers service is inline with most insurers in that we really really really value your call in real live that means for me an average waiting time of 45 mins on the phone . which may be fine for yourself but not for me . Tesco's policy of trying to obtain your card details for their system is in my view bordering on a scam . the process on having to create an online account to view your building and contents insurance policy documents should not mean having to registry your debt card details !! and lastly and not really relevant here the idea of giving money for a Tesco card to get a discount on their products really . this was tried by companies in the 18-19 century paying workers with tokens to buy from the business . just think a little before jumping in who sets what products to be discounted on and what type of products will be offered premium priced branded goods you would never buy , discount vouchers for your next holiday !!!! Renewal Error

1
Absolutely awful experience with Tesco. There was a renewal error on my account where the payment wasn't taken on an expired card. The way it was handled was beyond appalling and I will not be going back to them or shopping in their stores ever again. Reviewed on: 10th July 2020

Absolutely terrible service, bordering on accusing me of insurance fraud. I am covered for £75k contents and they seem unwilling to pay out £10k Reviewed on: 3rd May 2020

Every little unhelpful!

Ever since we became home owners 7 years ago, we have been taking out Home Insurance from Tesco for majority of those years. We have never made a claim, which explains why we’ve had them as our insurer for so long. We just didn’t know how horrible they were. An honest mistake which will not be repeated. With Storm Atiyah, the children’s school closure for Xmas and sub –zero temperatures fast approaching, we found ourselves faced with a tiny issue with the boiler – the fan broke. It could have been a lot worse, but luckily all we needed was a replacement fan to be installed. It wasn’t so bad. Or so we thought, after Tesco told us that our policy covers for the boiler (under home emergency) for up to £1000 worth of repairs (yes, that’s one thousand pounds!). A plumber was sent to ‘look at’ the boiler. Strangely even before the plumber had made it to our house this counted as ‘an existing claim’ on the policy. The plumber examined the boiler, and reported that the issue was due to a ‘leak in the roof’. Now, we know a leak involves a drop or two of dripping water somewhere, so he pointed to a random watermark to prove his point. (It wasn’t ever seen before he entered the house and has magically disappeared and never made an appearance shortly after he left the premises). In short, there was no leak, the roof is just fine. He tried showing me the ‘leak’, but all I could make out was a few drops of water that could’ve ‘accidentally’ been splashed around (from the feed expansion tank located in the loft). Or it could be the WD40 that was left behind during the recent annual boiler maintenance and servicing. As a consequence, Tesco decides that the boiler is BER ‘beyond economic repair’ and refuses to get the boiler repaired. After a week of living in a freezing house with young children, I had to then contact a locally registered plumber, who immediately sourced a fan, and fixed the boiler within a day for around £300. It’s been working fine since then. Also co-incidentally the plumber sent by Tesco to ‘look at’ our boiler, works for MPSL Emergency (https://mpslemergency.co.uk/) a company that also does roof repairs. However, the fact hasn’t been verified yet whether they repair roofs with real or imaginary leaks. So kindly do your due diligence and research. This story will be forwarded to BBC Watchdog and any other organisation that is willing to investigate fraud and ridiculous insurance policies. Operation ‘Boycott Tesco’ is now at work – we’re not buying anything that has the name ‘Tesco’ on it, informing every single of our friends and family about their crooked policies, and making sure this story gets posted on as many review websites as possible. Please beware of such con artists who can effortlessly attribute a broken fan to a ‘roof leak’ and conjure up a watermark in the process. Stay safe from such crooks. Reviewed on: 20th December 2019

I'm mad at Tesco insurance Attention, if you buy insurance there, they will do everything not to help you, on phone they advising me to take private companies I have lived in the house since 2012, I had no problems until yesterday when began to leak the ceiling in the hallway Basically what they said in phone - (we notice it wasn’t any storm in your area but its heavy rain so call to roofer) - roofer for leaking ceiling inside house . Insurance company should check the reason for leaking but at Tesco already at the telephone stage without seeing even pictures are able to state that this is not their business call to private company Nice help Thanks useless Tesco insurance Think twice before buying something from them and look for review ! People who bought insurance and give 5 stars probably never had to claim Reviewed on: 15th November 2019
