Review of the Family Building Society, Savings:

Good interest while it lasts, and good customer service

I've been with Family BS for a few years. They are one of several banks/building societies who regularly offer competitive interest rates. Sadly, as with all banks, you have to keep an eye for interest rates later being lowered. Particularly disappointing that the windfall bond has recently become a lot less attractive. Customer service is good - It's refreshing to get through reasonably quickly by phone and for me it's a big help to get a customer services agent with a British accent as I really struggle with accents. However the customer service line would ideally be open for longer as sometimes you need help outside of office hours. Reviewed on: 17th April 2025

An excellent response to my issue

My call was picked up really quickly. I rang because I was locked out of my account. The chap I spoke too was very friendly and reassuring, and they helped me get back in. I was impressed with their patience, and because they stayed on the phone to lead me through the process. Reviewed on: 8th December 2025

Closing my account - much easier than registering.

I decided to withdraw money and then close my account because thefunds were needed for property expenditure. Easily achieved online. Reviewed on: 6th December 2025

Excellent customer service

I was very pleased with the help provided by the Family Building Society today. Your colleague answered all my questions and was very polite and helpful at all times. Possibly the worst website of any financial institut...

Possibly the worst website of any financial institution that I have ever encountered. The switch from NCBS to Family website does not seem to have improved things at all. Savings interest rates are okay. Nothing else. Reviewed on: 1st December 2025

FBS IT support is second to none

The Family Building Society had updated their internet banking system and seldom using it I had to re-register but got confused with passwords, etc., so called their IT help line. Nicole calmed me down, saw me through each possible error situation and got me going again. Her patience was admirable, especially after us waiting 5 mins for an email to arrive only for me to notice my broadband had disconnected. In my 70s I easily get irate when faced with computer probs but I was guided in a non-judgemental way with care and consideration. Three days later she called back to check I was happy. If only all companies were so efficient: I can see why they are called the Family Building Society. Reviewed on: 27th November 2025
