Matured Bond

Encouraged to use online service. Used the service to give bond maturity instructions. Received an email confirming receipt. Maturity date came and went and nothing happened. Eventually spoke to a human who said that they hadn’t received instructions!! Assured me that it would be dealt with immediately. Nothing happened!! Sent two emails today and got an automated reply to say they were very busy!! Still awaiting return of my investment. I was initially going to re-invest but have lost all confidence in this institution - very unimpressed! Reviewed on: 6th June 2025

Say they will return funds same day - Always take two days. Avoid unless prepared to endure dismal service and broken promises. Reviewed on: 25th October 2022
Reply from Family Building Society I’m sorry to learn that you are dissatisfied. If a withdrawal instruction is received by 3pm on a working day, we will process the payment the same day and the receiving bank will receive the funds no later than the end of the following working day. This is clearly set out in our terms and conditions and online. Response date: 16th November 2022

Easy to Use

I've had an ISA with the company for 8 years. The interest rate isn't always the highest, but it is in the mix. It is very easy to manage the account online and there have been no issues with the account. Reviewed on: 12th October 2022

Easy set-up / Great service

Had money to invest after a previous fixed rate bond with another Building Society had matured. Their 2 Year Tracker Bond was a product of interest due to the recent regular increase in the base rate. It was easy to apply for and set up on-line. The next day I saw that a newer version of the product was offering a better rate of interest. Wrote hoping they could switch me as it was within the first 15 days. Received a call the next day and after the standard security questions they confirmed the money would be moved. Checked on-line and saw that they have actioned my request. Do not open a windfall bond

However, the Windfall Bond is made up of two elements: It offers security for your savings, paying a variable rate of interest linked to the Bank of England Bank Rate. Additionally, there is the possibility of winning one of our monthly cash prizes. This is roughly a 1 in 714 chance of winning a single draw, multiplied by 12 draws. Of course, this means that you’re significantly more likely not to win a prize than to win one, but there’s always a chance! If you decide the Windfall Bond is no longer for you, you can close your account by giving 35 days’ notice, via the secure messaging facility available within the Online Service, by phone or by writing to us. you emailed me stating that I had an unread message so I logged in and read it which thanked me for investing some money in my account which I then opened to check and yet the money was not showing in the account !!!!! Reviewed on: 28th June 2022

The best telephone customer service ever!

How refreshing. I have been completely fed up with other banks and building societies whenever contacting them. They keep you waiting, don't listen and everything just becomes unnecessarily difficult. I spoke to Lisa this morning who was the model of efficiency, professionalism and courteousness.
