Review of the Domestic and General, Warranty:

Great Product and Service

I took insurance out with Domestic and General when I bought a treadmill from Argos during Covid. This year the touch screen stopped working altogether contacted them. They sent out a new screen and arranged for an engineer to fit it. When he came he identified another problem with the wiring that meant that the new screen broke whilst he was fitting it. He ordered another screen and relevant parts and came back a couple of weeks later to fit them. It was as good as new. Great product and service Reviewed on: 23rd August 2024

Bought warranty for hotpoint gas cooker. Fault found after 15 months. Engineer from Pacifica came expecting to fix a Belling Electric Oven (which is in our caravan) Said he would get new thermostat, then wrote to say job completed, then emailed to say they dont fix Hotpoint Cookers. Now spent 1.5 hours on premium rate phone calls & cannot get anywhere, even on supposedly live chat. Engineer said D&G regulary make mistakes. Retailer said they would not use them. Not even an address to write to on their policy document. Dire! Reviewed on: 24th October 2024

Dealing with Domestic and General through my Whirlpo...

Dealing with Domestic and General through my Whirlpool warranty has been one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with an appliance repair service. After two previous visits that didn’t resolve the issue, I was left hanging on a third appointment, scheduled for a 1-4 PM window. Despite calling twice to confirm, I was repeatedly told the technician was on the way—only to find out later that this was not true. The office had already closed (on Eastern time), leaving me unable to ensure I was rescheduled for the next day. When I called again to follow up, I was informed that the parts had been returned to the warehouse and I’d have to wait another four days to reschedule. At this point, I requested that Domestic and General just write me a check so I could replace the fridge. After three weeks without a working fridge, we needed to be able to keep food in the house. They refused, claiming the repair technician hadn’t designated the fridge as non-repairable—which is a lie. The technician clearly told me that only Whirlpool’s tech support has the authority to deem it unrepairable. The representative I spoke with was incredibly rude and dismissive, saying, “I don’t care, sir. This isn’t how it works,” and showed no interest in finding a solution. It’s been almost three weeks since the initial visit, and our fridge is still broken. If I could give negative stars for their service, I would, because they certainly don’t deserve even one. Our Hotpoint Fridge/Freezer became faulty, so I phoned the repair line to ask for a repair. My options were clearly explained to me by the friendly assistant who promptly arranged a next day repair. No stress, no drama, just good old fashioned customer service, thank you. Reviewed on: 24th September 2024

I like domestic and general because they are good with the speed of the engineer and will swap like for like. I have used them for years on all my appliances, and they are not too expensive. Always had good customer service. Reviewed on: 24th August 2024

Not east to deal with and their website is not clear.

Not east to deal with and their website is not clear. Been with them for just over 12 months since having new Baxi boiler fitted. Was sold the warranty under the premise of a hassle free life with regards to the boiler. Had an issue, and had nothing but hassle. They did sort it eventually, but after a tussle. Now waiting for a letter, apparently, to give me a code to get my boiler it's annual service, which is all part of the plan. Boiler now almost a month overdue it's service, still no letter. I'll give them until the end of June then I'll doubtless have to take them on, again. And yes, although I don't doubt it will get done, it's just not hassle free. Reviewed on: 27th May 2024

Have left me without a washing machine for over a week and a half as their repairs people ordered the wrong parts, so I have to wait until next week which will be 2 weeks then. I explained that I'm a lone parent to a disabled child and going this long without a washing machine is more than just an inconvenience and staff were dismissive. I have been paying this insurance for over 4 years, and for what? I can't see myself using Domestic and General after this. Reviewed on: 10th May 2024
