New Customer - Opening a Savings Bonds

After researching interest rates, Hinckley & Rugby were offering a competitive rate for fixed rate bonds. I have never had an account with you before, the advice, customer service was excellent; personal care tailored to my needs. I opened a savings bond and the efficiency and after care advice was sound and wise. I liked the personal, in-branch contact and friendliness of all the staff when it's now lost to on-line transactions. I needed to discuss options of what to do with my money following a family bereavement and appreciated their kindness and compassion. Reviewed on: 18th January 2026

Experience of opening a savings account

I was met with a friendly welcome. all aspects of my enquiry were clearly explained and I felt my views were listened to. The only complaint I would have is that I attempted to assign my everyday Nationwide account to my newly opened Hinckley and Rugby account. I was unable to complete this because a physical bank statement was required. As is standard practice by every bank/building society I was encouraged to go paperless. I was able to access my online Nationwide account through the banking app and show or take screen shots of my statements in the presence of H & R staff. This is not acceptable. This makes me feel very frustrated and questioning 'What is the point of going paperless if Banks and Building Societies won't accept paperless applications?' Very frustrating. To conclude I was very happy with the staff at H & R who dealt with me on the day. Reviewed on: 8th January 2026
