DON'T USE THEM, APPALING CUSTOMER SERVICE!! & COMPLAINTS TEAM

Terrible customer service APPALING!!!!! DONT USE I had my breakdown policy with the RAC, I was happy with them until I had accidentally (without knowing or any contact) missed a payment, February 2021, I then a few days later called them out as I had broken down. I was told on the phone that the payment had not gone through, so I asked them if I could pay the monthly premium and I was told no as this account had been closed, I then had to pay £180 upfront as I had no other alternative other than being stuck on my own on a motorway layby. I then made a complaint about this and of course, it went in their favor as most companies usually do this as they don't want to accept blame or support customers who have been badly treated. At this point I ended up moving to another breakdown firm who I have now been with for some time and happy with their service. February 3rd 2022, I got a call from the RAC much to my surprise, I was asked about my renewal, I advised them that I had not stayed with them due to the service I had received, she then re-opened the complaint. On the 19th day of the complaint, I called up asking for an update as if not I wanted to be able to escalate further, I was told on the phone that someone would then call me back the same day before 7 pm, this didn't happen but around 6.45 pm I had an email to say that they needed a further 20 days to look into my complaint, which I was not happy about but I had to wait. 17th March, I then chased up via the Twitter page I then around an hour later get a snotty email that said the following: I've now looked into the concerns you raised on 3 February 2022 and wanted to let you know the outcome. 'Our records show that we responded to your complaint under a sperate case reference REF WAS HERE and our findings were emailed to you on 25 February 2021 and read at 10.28.My follow up email was also ready that day at 15.07. I'm confident all of your concerns have been fully investigated and that we're now at the end of our investigation process but can find no justification to change the decisions that we have conveyed to you. Whilst it is always our aim to resolve matters of contention to our customer's satisfaction, I very much regret that on this occasion we are not able to do so. Your rights of escalation were provided to you in the email on 25 February 2022 and this complaint will now ne closed. Thank you again for taking the time to get in touch we appreciate your feedback' They haven't even bothered to look into the new complaint that I put forward, I would not have even put the complaint forward had the lady on the 3rd February this year not mentioned it she did the complaint with me over the phone, something is wrong somewhere. The customer service and the way they treat customers are unfair! I also was not aware that the £180 was for the year! So I had paid out unknowingly for 2 x breakdown memberships, I suffer from severe anxiety and every time I have dealt with this company they have been so unhelpful and not understanding of this at all. would never use again!!! full service booked on my driveway, Technician spent most of the 1hr 15mins total time either on the phone or sat in his van or my car, oil not changed and wouldn't have even told me if not questioned (excuse was one of the bolts for the floor tray would now come off...not surprised listening to the impact wrench going at it) . Now waiting to be contacted for the oil to be changed and the service to be completed.... but of course they took the full payment automatically despite only being a very small part complete!!!, air filter not changed, coolant not topped up. and to top it off broke one of my brake pad wear sensors and left an oily mess on my driveway. for the price of a full manufactures recommended service all I received was new wipers when my ones were only a week old anyway, a "new oil filter" and a new pollen filter plus damage to my driveway and car! Have been ignored since submitting my complaint and the evidence that was requested so now having to take this matter up with Trading standards as I'm left out of pocket for a service I didn't even receive Reviewed on: 19th December 2025

First and last experience using the RAC

I’ve had to use the AA several times over the years with a works van and never waited more than 50 minutes, unfortunately for me today I needed the RAC , called them at around 4:30pm , estimated time of arrival 21:30 - 11:30 pm , and that was to survey the vehicle even though I explained that the power steering had failed and it couldn’t be driven ( aux belt broken ) . Absolutely terrible company!

Absolutely terrible company! Had an MOT with one of their vouchers you get from bri bf a member, I had the MOT with an EAC approved garage and the garage are chasing me for the money as RAC are ignoring them! I’ve now called around 12 times and emailed 10 in the past month they’ve offered no compensation at all and still haven’t invoiced the garage! The stress levels are next level. Worst breakdown cover ever

Appalling service from the RAC, don't believe their advertised response time of 60 minutes. Reported breakdown and initially quoted 4-6 hour wait. Rang them to ask if they could do it any quicker as had to take daughter somewhere and then had an update saying be 6-8 hours now. Rang again to see what was going on, told escalation team ring me back immediately, they didn't, but had text to say wait will be 24 hours now!!! Rang again to say needed take daughter somewhere and also take her to school early in morning so couldn't wait 24 hours and told I'm not priority and no manager available. absolute disgrace . cancelled within 24 hours , there was no mention of cancellation fee or admin fee to cancel . when told we wd be charged for cancelling even tho less than 24 hours i asked where did it tell me about cancellation fee . was told its in the paperwork that comes by post that has not been sent out yet !! so meant ti gave a crystal ball ?! told if didn’t pay wd affect my c/rating :spoke to manager who sd there wd be an investigation . told him wd make sure potential wd know about this scam customers 30 mins into call manager hung up cos he knew was 100% in wrong . reason all financial institutes ave to refund because did not inform of charges in advance . rac absolute disgrace customer service / care poorest ever experienced zero stars for this lot Reviewed on: 26th November 2025

the worst company i've ever had to deal with.

the worst company i've ever had to deal with. been stranded currently for 19 hours with no end in sight. they didn't care that my son has asthma and the cold has caused him to have an attack. had 8 calls with them (usually after spending 30 mins on hold), and everything they've said on all 8 calls has turned out to be a lie. what's on the website under my 'help' is also innaccurate - i'm pretty sure they're not arriving 3 hours ago. a few of them have also been extremely rude over the phone. i'm not the type to usually leave reviews, but this whole experience has been a nightmare. oh and they're blaming the weather but it's just a bit of light rain! i've got 10 months of this membership left but i'm about to sign up for the AA instead. So to sum up, please avoid this company at all costs! absolute shambles and rude at the same time Reviewed on: 22nd November 2025

Been paying for over 12cmths today had a burst tyre. Took me over 45 minutes to get through went round the automated system 8 times finally got through put on hold another 12 mins on told got cut off. Had to ring bk and wait and wait go through to a nice lady who said there system was down. Which is annoying as it pointed you to the we'd site only which didn't work! Booked my car in told that one of two things could happen either they send out a local tyre guy charging 3 times the value of the tyre or they tow me. I said don't you change tyres so wasn't hopeful. Gets a phone call 30 mins later l can send a guy with a tyre at a cost of just under 200 now or you can wait till 9.30pm I'm a disabled lady can't wall far and my car was in a secluded spot and l felt vunrable with all the stress my asthma kicked off and l was in a lot of pain as l was very cold. My phone battery was dying after trying for nearly an hour to get through. I'vI'had an update its now 9.40 till 11pm thats priority from 4.30pm Ive come across a forum on Facebook and the comments of customers experiance are utterly appalling! I will be cancelling my policy and I'd never use this scam company again. Reviewed on: 17th November 2025

Worst services, don't pay for a breakdown policy from RAC, you will be stranded for hours before they will send someone to pick you up. They are working with some contractors that don't care about you. At the moment I am waiting for 3 and a half hours, a contractor recovery truck was supposed to arrive 45 minutes ago and I have been told that I need to wait for another 2 hours. I have phone RAC and I told them that I can't wait that long, they laughed in my face and told me to make a complaint. Reviewed on: 15th November 2025

Let down.

While driving along the motorway at night, I hit a road sign lying abandoned in the middle of the lane. Luckily I wasn't injured, and the vehicle was OK, but I'd burst two tyres and became stranded at the roadside. I called the RAC, naturally, as I had full nationwide recovery with unlimited callouts. In my dismay, the call centre agent, who clearly couldn't care less and sounded like he'd rather have been at home, told me my situation was technically an accident rather than a breakdown. I'm not covered, should have read the small print, too bad. If I want recovered it'll be £218 or contact your insurance. So I contacted my insurance, who put me through to their breakdown team. Guess who they were? That's right. Two hundred quid please. So thanks to the RAC who, despite 15 years of membership, let me down when I needed them, to the tune of 200 quid.
