A grand little Building Society

I hadn't even heard of this Building Society {BS} when a friend recommended the Family BS. I was looking put somewhere to put some money where I could get instant access and a decent rate of interest in these difficult times for savers. The Family BS met that requirement. Opening the account was easy and straight forward and they seem like a decent set of people to deal with. I would recommend them. Reviewed on: 29th January 2019

Possibly the worst website of any financial institut...

Possibly the worst website of any financial institution that I have ever encountered. The switch from NCBS to Family website does not seem to have improved things at all. Savings interest rates are okay. Nothing else. Reviewed on: 1st December 2025

FBS IT support is second to none

The Family Building Society had updated their internet banking system and seldom using it I had to re-register but got confused with passwords, etc., so called their IT help line. Nicole calmed me down, saw me through each possible error situation and got me going again. Her patience was admirable, especially after us waiting 5 mins for an email to arrive only for me to notice my broadband had disconnected. In my 70s I easily get irate when faced with computer probs but I was guided in a non-judgemental way with care and consideration. Three days later she called back to check I was happy. If only all companies were so efficient: I can see why they are called the Family Building Society. Reviewed on: 27th November 2025

Transferring an ISA into Family BS

Filled in a paper ISA transfer booklet (five pages hand written) as they don't do these things online. Sent it off, only to be told that they can't accept electronic ISA transfers. Why this wasn't on the front page of the form I don't know. Reviewed on: 19th November 2025

We understand your concern and are sorry to hear that the information was not clear to you; however, we would like to clarify that the information you mentioned was provided clearly on the front at the top of the ISA transfer application form quoting “we can only accept cash ISA transfers by cheque’. Our team makes every effort to ensure that all essential details are communicated upfront to avoid confusion, and in this case, the instructions were included. Most ISA providers can transfer funds via cheque, and we would like to reassure you that we always credit funds based on the date of the cheque, ensuring there is no loss of interest to our customers. While electronic transfers are not currently available, we hope to introduce this option in the future. Response date: 20th November 2025
