I got this card (my first and only credit card, I try to avoid them generally) specifically because it has the best rates for spending money abroad. Best of all, there is no charge for withdrawing cash from ATMs overseas- so I only use it when abroad, and pay it off in full each month. Using this saves me loads of money which would have been spent on fees, commissions etc when using my debit card, or bureaux de change.

I've had very little reason to contact customer services, but on the one occasion i did, they were helpful and quick to sort things out. I'd recommend this for anyone who spends even a little time oversea, for business or pleasure.

I have been with Halifax for a number of years now, maybe 10? And I can honestly say I've never had a problem. I've lost a card while out shopping (pre Covid - when you could shop!) I've had an online rouge tried to make a fraudulent charge against my account for some "white goods" in a foreign country; and, I once had to query a cash withdrawal I spotted on my statement from an overseas bank. Given that my passport was two years out of date at the time it certainly wasn't me! All of the above incidents were delt with no fuss whatsoever; and because these incidents were years apart, I can only conclude that this is their operational norm? So, yes, I've been tempted with the cash bribes to "ditch and switch" to other providers, but I'm happy where I am; and as long as I don't go into the red and I abide by the terms and conditions, there are no nasty charges. So here I'll stay.

I have never dealt with such an appalling financial company. The staff are growing increasingly rude, inconsiderate and inefficient. Threatening, intimidating and lying on the phone. Complaints ignored for months & months on end. No responsibility or accountability. Currently closing 3 current accounts, 3 savings accounts, 1 ISA and 1 credit card due to the disgusting way in which the staff behave and management ignore.

I was a victim of crime and the offender used the tjreat of violence to access my online banking. Halifax stated this wasn't fraud and said i couldn't get the stolen money back. If i was anyone opening an account i would look elsewhere as my experience was horrible. These will side with the offenders should you be a victim of fraud or crime through your bank. Im closing alm my accounts and moving to a more friendly understanding bank. Avoid these.

It is a nightmare dealing with Halifax. the staff are okay once you get into a branch but otherwise it is immensely frustrating dealing with their products. More than once they have got into an incredible muddle because the left hand does not seem to know what the right hand is doing and I have had to spend hours with customer service. .

I recently opened an account with halifax and when I received the cards the letter was addressed to Mrs khan but when I opened it it said Dear Mr Khan and my card had Mr Khan on it when I called I was told the account was in Mr when I clearly opened it in Mrs and I was told to go to the branch to change it although it was their fault I called earlier today and was told to call back between 7-11 am to speak to the relevant team who would sort it instead I spoke to a very bad customer service lady who didn't even care and when I told her I wanted to close the account she just said wait while I put you on hold and just closed it she didn't even try to talk me out of it like the other lady did it was like she didn't care about the bank or their customers update: I waited ages for halifax to respond to my complaint and after many calls I received a letter saying they had looked at my complaint and gave me £30 compensation which I think is an insult considering the inconveniences they have caused me and I definitely won't be banking with them ever again

I tried making an online transfer of monies from my Halifax account. However, I was requested to call the fraud line. I’ve was on hold for 3 hours and gave up. I tried again and gave up after another 3 hours. I spent 6 hours on the phone since it was an urgent transaction. I will now transfer my money elsewhere and similarly with all my businesses. Incompetence doesn’t fully describe such a service.

Opened a help to buy ISA 5 years ago, I am buying a house now. Went to close it to find that is must be done in branch, ok fine. However ALL branches including major city centre ones ONLY open 0930 till 1400. As I work mon-fri, like most people, I can’t do this. Called customer service to be told basically “tough”. Was told I could write a letter to the closing team, you read that correctly write a letter, no phones, no email. The closing team don’t have phones or computers apparently, but was advised they will probably just tell me “tough” too as it MUST be done in branch. I was also offered to have my complaint escalated to the complaints team, which could take 8 weeks which is great when your trying to buy a house and need the money straight away.
When I asked why not for example close branch’s on a Wednesday and open on a Saturday was told this was because of COVID 19???? Other banks are open on a Saturday, Barclays for example I said to be told yes but we have chosen not to do that so again “tough”.

I now have to take a day off work at the cost of £150 just to access MY money.

Quite possibly the worst banking service I have ever experienced, not willing to help in the slightest just kept saying it’s in the terms and conditions even though when I agreed to those terms and conditions the branch’s were open mon-sat 9am till 5pm but again just told basically “tough”

I will NEVER bank with Halifax again after this and I STRONGLY advise others to do the same.

I have been banking with Halifax for a while with no major issues. I was targeted by fraudsters and had several withdrawals from my account
I went in to my local branch (Preston) and was assisted immediately. After speaking to the fraud team I was given clear instructions how to reset all passwords and secure my account and on top of that, they INSTANTLY credited my lost money - what a bank!

Called them immediately and they REFUSED TO REFUND ME WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING INTO MY ACCOUNT. BUNCH OF USELESS INCOMPETENT STAFF WHO COULDNT EVEN ANSWER MY QUESTIONS. APPLIED TO COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT, ACTION FRAUD AND FINANCIAL OMBUDSMAN TO RECOVER MY HARD EARNED MONEY. MICHAEL DIAMOND A SO CALLED "MANAGER" AN ABSOLUTE JOKE, I THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE HELPFUL TO SPEAK TO VIRTUAL ASSISTANT THAN HIM, AS ALL HE KEPT SAYING "I AM SATISFIED WITH THE DECISION MADE". WHEN I ASKED HIM ON WHAT GROUNDS HE REFUSED TO REPLY. DANIELLE IS ANOTHER USELESS FRAUD DEPARTMENT OFFICER, WHO ASKED ME 2 QUESTIONS: 1.HAVE YOU GOT YOUR CARD WITH YOU? YES 2.DOES ANYONE KNOW YOUR PIN- NO. BASED ON THAT SHE MADE A DECISION NOT TO REFUND MY MONEY!!!!!! NEVER WITHIN 9 YEARS WITH HALIFAX I WITHDRAWN THAT MUCH CASH, SO BANK SHOULD HAVE BLOCKED IT on GROUNDS OF SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY. ALSO IT HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN FROM THE ATM FROM DIFFERENT BOROUGHS OF UK, VERY FAR FROM WHERE I LIVE. CLEARLY THEY HAVE POOR SECURITY PERFORMANCE. I SPENT 4 HOURS ON THE PHONE TO HALIFAX TO GET ZERO RESULT. STAY AWAY FROM HALIFAX AND ANY OF THE BANKS UNDER THE LLOIDS BANKING GROUP, THEY HAD 21,304 OMBUDSMAN COMPLAINTS IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS!! I WILL RECOVER MY MONEY, AND YOU WILL COMPENSATE ME FOR THE DESTRESS YOU CAUSED ME AND I WILL BE CLOSING MY ACCOUNT WITH HALIFAX. THANKS FOR RUINING MY XMAS.

Been with Halifax for several years, many cheaper deals around but thinking it was a good company, how wrong. Claimed on buildings insurance following water leak, they didn't cover the damage caused by our builder tracing where the leak was coming from which obviously we needed to know or how could we repair it. Absolutely disgraceful, their manner is very poor, we will never use this company again, intend to cancel all policies immediately and as landlords with many properties we have a lot of policies. Please save your money and go elsewhere, when you need to make a claim you don't need the extra upset of dealing with these rip off merchants.

Ultimate Reward Current Account

Fantastic value if you use the benefits

As long as you avail of the overdraft it’s good value. Over the last few years we have had occasion to use the AA, Travel and Mobile phone insurance. Each time it has been a quick and satisfactory response. I would definitely recommend this product.
