I got this card (my first and only credit card, I try to avoid them generally) specifically because it has the best rates for spending money abroad. Best of all, there is no charge for withdrawing cash from ATMs overseas- so I only use it when abroad, and pay it off in full each month. Using this saves me loads of money which would have been spent on fees, commissions etc when using my debit card, or bureaux de change.

I've had very little reason to contact customer services, but on the one occasion i did, they were helpful and quick to sort things out. I'd recommend this for anyone who spends even a little time oversea, for business or pleasure.

As first time buyers, we were so nervous about getting ripped off on our first mortgage. We'd explored other options but eventually decided to go with Halifax, as we both held current and savings accounts with them already. From day 1, the process was so smooth. We met our Mortgage Advisor and immediately felt at ease. There were no pushy sales tactics and we really felt like she was on our side and trying to get the best deal for us. Half way through we changed the property we were buying and the change was effortless for her. She helped us through every stage until she left to go on maternity and even then we still had the best service from Halifax. We'd originally gone for the £400 cashback but right before we were due to complete, we'd seen the £1,000 cashback deal for new owners. As we were already completing, we were worried we wouldn't be eligible but after we expressed our concerns, they honoured it and gave us an extra £600 cashback, which helped us pay our solicitors bill in full. The best part, though? Receiving a lovely little tote bag full of new home goodies, including teabags, shortbread biscuits and more. Thank you so much for making our first home purchase a breeze!

I'm been a Halifax customer for some time, but in the last year I've noticed significant security issues with their banking offering and would strongly recommend using other providers.
- I had a significant amount of money taken from my account via a number of transactions in under 24 hours which they failed to alert me to / check if it was fraud (it was). In the same period a loan was also opened, again, at no point did they contract me to check my ID or check it was not fraud.
- Incorrectly sent out new card and pin numbers which I did not request
- Sent new bank card to the wrong address (an old one which I'd changed months ago with them).
- Failed to update my phone number when I changed phones, resulting in an old number still being incorrectly sent my balances, payments etc.

Their systems are a not adequate for protecting peoples money or savings.

There are also cashback offers for using your debit card which are paid very quickly. Excellent online banking service and mobile app. Overdrafts charged at 1p per £7 per day which is great for small to medium sized overdrafts.
