Having banked with the Nationwide for 20 odd years, I'd rather give my money to a stranger to look after.

Whatever problem you have, usually thier fault, they simply will not help. Either thier internal training mandates they refuse to help, or sociopaths work there for the sheer joy of draining all hope out of thier customers.

Avoid these grubby, deceitful crooks at all cost.

The service from Nationwide Home Insurance after an attempted break in was very poor. The door, which took nearly 8 weeks to be replaced, wasn't as good as the old door and was poorly made. Nationwide nor the company that fitted the door, VPS Evander, were prepared to do anything about it. Terrible customer service that only added to the stress of dealing with the mess left after the attempted break in.

It was my bad luck that I decided to go with them for a 5 years fixed mortgage. My circumstances changed and I had to get my partner off the mortgage. Their Mortgage Consultants have no answers and have no training on Nationwide's lending policies. I knew more by reading Nationwide's public policy from their site than the so called Mortgage Consultants. My simple case was completely messed up by their so called Mortgage Consultants who are nothing but Mortgage Software Operators.

That was the start of my nightmare. I logged a complaint and the most condescending, fabricating and lying complaints handler was my next nightmare. It seems like she is trained to intimidate complaining customers. She lied to me on the phone and then when I challenged her lies on written email and asked them to review the phone calls I was told in a written reply that they lost my phone recording!!!

Even at a high cost of £5500 early repayment charges, I decided to change the lender because I can not trust this bank or their software and their mortgage consultants dont allow manual application by underwriters.

So If anyone wants to re-mortgage with them then my advise is either not to have any unusual circumstances in life that may result in a review by Nationwide or dont go with Nationwide in the first place, because they don't have humans but trained robots who are only able to operate a non trustworthy software and trained bullys who intimidate customers when they complain.

Given a choice between having cancer and taking a mortgage with Nationwide, I will chose cancer.

NB: I have contacted BBC Watchdog. Hopefully people will soon see the whole story and learn from my misfortune with this company.

Flex account is easy to access on line and transferring money to another Nationwide account or paying into business accounts of tradespeople you use is quick and simple. Also gives me access to Flex Regular Saver at a good interest rate (you can save max £250 per month - used to be £500 but sadly they reduced it). Free travel insurance for hold in UK or Europe too - what's not to like?

After upgrading my travelinsurance to ensure I was fully covered, I was left disappointed when my return flight ticket from Napal was cancelled by Jetairline and Flexplus would not cover the replacement ticket I bought. The first phone call I made regarding the claim was rejected and the reason given was because I had not chosen the “Travel distruption” option on my policy. After doing some research and looking into my policy, I called back and informed them to play the call I had originally made repeating “is this a comprehensive cover? And the person on the line saying yes”, the lady was very nice and told me, I am sorry we had many calls regarding Jetairline but we have recieved an email from head office to reject all claims regarding to fiancial difficulties of the airline, only claim acceptable would be weather related issues. When i asked where in the policy this was desrcibe, she was unable to respond. Having had two different reasons for not accepting my claim, I reseached the “Flexplus” policy online and on the first page of Nationwide it clearly says any cancellation up to £5000 is acceptable. The stress I have been through to one side, having had paid for a false insurance is even worst. DO NOT BUY THIS INSURANCE. I have a friend that been on the same trip and her claim was fully acceptable by halifax insurance.

This is just a current account with interest that does exactly what it says on the tin. I love the fact that you get free travel insurance if you pay in at least £750 each month. Staff are super friendly and very helpful, no matter which branch you go to. Online banking is very easy to set up and use.

I don't use my credit card all the time, but it's very handy for holidays. I love the cash back you get just for using it and making repayments is super easy using the Nationwide online banking system. Staff are genuinely friendly no matter which branch you go to in my 40 years worth of experience with them. As an aside, many years ago I had a cheque book stolen and £600 taken from my account. I was quickly reimbursed and was treated with total respect which made the harrowing experience a lot more bearable.
